Volunteering at sported. - Plea for Volunteers

The most common volunteer-related challenge at sported. is finding volunteers who match the geography and availability of our Members, have the particular skills and experti Members need and come to us at just the time that we're looking for them! With that in mind, it feels like a significant achievement to have 129 Mentors and 40 Experts working with us and we want to say thank you for their contributions and flexibility.

We're currently looking for more Mentors across our active regions in England, and in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland from Spring next year. However, with volunteering on the decline, this may be no easy task! The Citizenship Survey in England (April 2010-March 2011) showed that the percentage of people who volunteered formally or informally over the last year, whether once a year or once a month, is at its lowest rate in the last ten years. However, 52% of formal volunteers were involved in sport/exercise organisations such as sported.'s Members, and 32% of those surveyed said that their motivation to volunteer was to use their existing skills, as our Mentors and Experts do.

So if you know someone who has significant experience of Business Planning, Management, Fundraising, Marketing, Finance, Governance, and/or Sports Development please let them know we need them - to provide support to more of our Members, and to reverse the decline in volunteering!
