sported. is pleased to announce its recent award of £7000 to
support a basketball club in Leeds delivering wide social
impact.
The Leeds Tigers are a highly successful basketball club for
young people in West Yorkshire. The club are recognised both
nationally and internationally. Leeds Tigers provide a safe
environment for young people to develop their self-esteem, respect
and basketball skills. The club aims to build strong links with
parents, schools, industry and governments, aspiring to enhance and
boost club members' skills, tools and aspirations to be the
best.
The project is based at the David Young Community Academy in
Seacroft with additional activity taking place at Mount St. Mary's
High in the Richmond Hill area and Corpus Christy High in the
Holton area of Leeds.
The funding through sported. will enable the project to enhance
relationships with parents and children within diverse communities
in Leeds, building community cohesion. The project will be
providing life skills through sporting activities, team building,
physical fitness and leadership coach education qualifications.
Through activities offered by the club, the hope is to also
encourage young people away from influences which might lead to
antisocial behaviour.
The activities aim to engage with youngsters, provide positive
activities especially where there is high incidence of gang based
activity.
