sported. is delighted to announce that through ongoing Mentor
support, North Devon and North Cornwall Boxing Club have launched
their new community boxing club for young people in Bridgerule.
With the support of sported. Mentor Hannah Colston, North Devon
and North Cornwall Boxing Club has offiallly constituted and are
affiliating with the Amature Boxing Association creating boxing
opportunities for the rurally isolated communities in North Devon
and Cornwall.
Interest in creating a community boxing club in the area was
stimulated through the Active Villages programme, when a series of
boxing activity nights were delivered in Bridgerule. sported. then
hosted a community consultation evening to asertain interest in
creating a sustainable community club. A team of enthusiastic
volunteers came forward and committed to roles to help the club
become a reality.
The club caters for 7 year olds upwards, including people with
learning disabilities, running various sessions from 5.30pm to
10.00pm on Thursday evenings, and costs as little as £1 to attend.
Young people will have the opportunity to participate in contact
and non-contact boxing related activities, and train as coaches to
help deliver at the club. For more information about the clubs
activities, please contact Ross Chard on 07794 640952 or ross.pro-active@hotmail.co.uk.
Julian Wills, sported. Regional Manager South West said "It's
fantastic to get this club off the ground. Hannah will now be
working with the club to develop a three year business and budget
plan, and supporting them to secure funding to help with initial
expenditure which will lead to the club become sustainable".
