Danielle Waterman gears up to tackle new role as sported. Ambassador
25 Jun 2012
sported. is delighted to announce that England rugby star
Danielle Waterman has joined the team as a Regional Ambassador for
the South West.
Danielle can now add her role as a sported. Ambassador to a long
list of distinctions including an award for England's Most
Promising Player in 2006 and two nominations for major accolades in
2010 - the IRB Player of the Year and the IRPA Try of the
Year.
Alongside playing in six successful 6 Nations campaigns, Danielle
has earned a silver medal in both the 2006 and 2010 IRB World
Cups. She has also played in 4 European Sevens Championships
and in the 2009 IRB Sevens World Cup.
Danielle said "Being brought up in a small town, community sport
provided me with the opportunity to play a whole range of
activities and engage with friends in a safe environment.
Without this I would not have been able to develop in to the
athlete I am now. It is therefore fantastic to be an
Ambassador for sported., as they are providing the critical support
needed to help community organisations progress and develop
opportunities for young people in their local communities. It is a
huge honour to be part of such an inspiring organisation, and also
to be able to play a role in the legacy of the London 2012 Olympic
Games."
Julian Wills, South West Regional Manager for sported. said "I am
delighted to have Danielle on board as an Ambassador. She is full
of enthusiasm for our work and is an inspiration to young
people."
Danielle will also be mentoring projects in her home county of
Gloucestershire, providing vital support to community groups that
are improving the lives of young people through sport.
sported. is currently supporting over 190 community and voluntary
groups in the South West who use sport as a tool to improve the
lives of young people and their communities. If you're interested
