NI Olympic medallist Dame Mary Peters and sported. NI Manager Brenda Kelly
sported. Northern Ireland Manager was among those who welcomed
the Olympic Flame as it arrived at George Best City of Belfast
Airport on Saturday 2 June 2012.
This prestigious event was attended by NI Olympic medallists,
including Dame Mary Peters and Paddy Barnes. First
Minister Peter Robinson opened the event followed by speeches from,
Deputy First Minister Martin McGuiness and Caral Ní Chuilín
Minister of Culture Arts and Leisure. Dame Mary Peters
received the flame from the Chief Executive of LOCOG. This
was the first stage in the flame's journey across Northern
Ireland. The flame will cross the border and visit Dublin on
Wednesday 6 June before returning to Belfast that same day.
Brenda Kelly said: "It was truly a once in a lifetime
opportunity to be present as the flame arrived in Northern Ireland
and it was an honour to meet the Olympians who attended the
event. It was a very exciting event and I feel very
privileged to have been part of it."
