Sport for development information session helps to delivery sporting legacy in Newry

sported., in partnership with the Confederation of Community
Groups Newry held our first event in Northern Ireland.
This free information event on Monday 21 May 2012 to
help groups in Newry and Mourne learn more about sport for
development and how it might be used in their work with young
people.
Speakers included Paul Kitchin, Lecturer at the University of
Ulster, Ronan McKenna Sports Development Officer from Shaftesbury
Community Recreation Centre and Brenda Kelly the Northern Ireland
Manager from sported.
The session was an opportunity for groups to gain a better
understanding of the theory of sport for development and also to
hear of practical examples of how it can be used to make an
impact of the lives of disadvantaged young people. The
sucessful event was attended by 12 groups from the Newry and Mourne
area.
