Loughborough boxing club bags sported. funding
08 Aug 2012
Shepshed ABC has been awarded a £2000 grant from sported. The
funding will allow them to purchase new and improved boxing
equipment so that young people from Shepshed and surrounding
boroughs can take part in weekly boxing and fitness sessions.
Shepshed ABC provides boxing, circuit and fitness sessions for
the local community, group training sessions for their boxers and
one-to-one practices with boxers before fights - six days a
week.
The club also takes registered fighters to competitions all over
the country and is run completely by volunteers. Every penny
that the club takes through membership and casual fees is spent
back within the club - but after paying rent, bills, insurance and
boxing affiliation costs they do not have enough to pay for new
equipment for attendees to use.
Kim Lillie from Shepshed ABC said "We are thrilled that sported.
have supported us with funding to buy some much needed boxing
equipment. Our Charnwood based club has been running for 11 years,
and over that time all of our current equipment has been purchased
by the head coach himself - who even sold his car to resurface the
floor. Unfortunately most of this kit is now wearing or worn out
but thanks to funding from sported., our dream of offering
specialised boxing and fitness kit for our registered young
fighters and public session attendees is now a reality."
Cheddi Gore, sported. Regional Manager for the East Midlands
said "Boxing is one of many highlights at the London 2012 Olympic
Games and by providing funding to grass roots sports clubs like
Shepshed ABC, sported. is creating a lasting legacy from the 2012
Games - this legacy is vital in ensuring that organisations like
Shepshed ABC can continue to change young lives through sport."
